Regular skin care is a crucial aspect of their grooming routine when dealing with allergic skin, helping with itching and making it more comfortable for your pet.

Why is it important to have a routine for allergic skin?

Allergies are an exacerbated response of the cat’s immune system. They occur when a harmless substance, also known as an allergen, is identified as something unfamiliar and potentially harmful. Establishing a routine for managing allergic skin conditions in cats is crucial for several reasons. Allergic skin issuescan significantly impact a cat’s quality of life, causing discomfort, intense itching or licking, and potential complications. Here are some reasons why a routine is important:

Manages lifelong disease: Allergic skin conditions tend to persist throughout a cat's life, necessitating continuous care and attention. Even when the skin appears normal, microscopic changes may be present, requiring a well-established routine for consistent management. This ensures symptoms are kept under control, maintainingoptimal skin health. In cases where signs become challenging, a routine facilitates a quick response and timely medical attention.

Treats hidden discomfort: Despite a seemingly normal surface, cats may experience underlying itching or irritation that is not immediately visible. Microscopical changes in the skin, even when it appears normal, can contribute to future relapses. A routine is essential for addressing these subtle discomforts that might otherwise go unnoticed and limit recurrences.

Ensures well-being: Chronic skin conditions in cats can lead to intense itching, licking discomfort, and pain that can make their skin miserable and alter considerably their quality of life. A well-designed routine plays a crucial role in alleviating symptoms, ensuring the cat's well-being over an extended period.

Reinforces the bond: Managing a lifelong disease requires a sustained and trusting relationship between the owner and the cat. Following a routine establishes predictability and consistency, reducing stress for the cat, that are a typical ‘routine’ species. Using practical and pleasant products not only facilitates routine care but also strengthens the bond between the pet and its family over the long term.

Understanding the specific triggers for your cat's allergies is pivotal in developing an effective management plan. Regular veterinary check-ups and attentive observation of your cat's behaviour and skin condition contribute to promptly identifying and addressing allergic reactions.

What to use for allergic skin?

The management of cat allergies is contingent upon the underlying cause, often evolving over time and requiring a multifaceted approach. If not addressed appropriately, symptoms may escalate, becoming more challenging to control.

There are four approaches that we can take to manage cat allergies:

Avoidance of Allergens: Where possible, minimize exposure to allergens through practices such as frequent cleaning to reduce dust mites, implementing regular preventative flea control, and avoiding specific foods or cleaning products known to trigger allergies.

Topical Approach: Apply topical solutions with soothing ingredients to targeted areas as needed, providing relief to affected areas and promoting overall skin health.

Medications: In cases of intense itching, licking and skin inflammation, medications can be employed to alleviate symptoms and manage allergic reactions effectively.

Immune Tolerance Enhancement: Explore options to enhance immune tolerance if deemed suitable for the cat’s specific condition, aiming to build resilience against allergic reactions over time.

By combining these approaches, tailored to the individual cat's needs, a comprehensive and evolving strategy can be implemented to effectively manage allergies and promote the well-being of your furry friend. Regular veterinary consultation is crucial for assessing the evolving nature of the allergy and adjusting the management plan accordingly.

Emphasizing the topical approach as the core of the routine, it is vital to choose products that not only offer soothing relief but also contribute to the repair of damaged skin, particularly in cases of allergic skin conditions. DOUXO® S3 CALM plays a pivotal role in this regard, providing effective relief for itchy, irritated, and sensitive skin while balancing skin microbiota thanks to Ophytrium, a powerful natural ingredient with a complete action on the skin barrier ecosystem. This specialized product goes beyond soothing discomfort; it actively protects the skin barrier ecosystem from allergens and enhances skin hydration. By incorporating DOUXO® S3 CALM into the routine, cat owners can ensure a comprehensive and targeted approach to managing allergic skin conditions, promoting overall skin health and well-being for their cats.

What can be a recommended routine for allergic skin?

Proven effectiveness of S3 Calm

DOUXO® S3 teams developed a specific patented routine for allergic cats, depending on the extent of the issue. For whole body application, we recommend to bathe the cat once every 3 to 4 weeks with DOUXO® S3 CALM Shampoo, to remove dirt, debris, allergens, crusts, etc. mechanically and then use DOUXO® S3 CALM Mousse every 2-3 days.

If your cat is reluctant to bath, the first shampoo can be replaced with a mousse. The mousse is a perfect solution, bringing the ingredients for a long-lasting contact. In case of localised issue you can use DOUXO® S3 CALM Pads; one pad per affected area, once daily.

This protocol has been clinically proven and recommended by vets throughout the world.
